| My fishing partner launched from Bird Island this A.M. and said they were doing boat checks on everyone...apparently caused a pretty good boat traffic jam. They told him they would be doing it all weekend...so heads up for potential slown downs at Bird Island. |

TPWS was doing the same thing on Packery between the s curve and the No wake zone before the bridge. They were working out of two boats and it wasnt the show me your life jacket check they were going through everything.
GOOD STUFF lets see more of that this summer! |

I would agree that TPW needs to do a better job of controlling the fools on the water but...
when they start to cause more problems, there should be a little common sense used, they have boats, they can get out and do the spot checks without being a nuisance. |

Jet ski - it seems that once you get one, and have no boating experience - you are a MASTER Driver.....go a 100mph everywhere
seems that TX Park & WL could spot these people instead of pulling over everyone (I know,,,discrimination). I have been pulled over with a guide (whom the water cops knew) and got a lic check...when a deep v bottom freshwater VIP boat zoomed past us.......CLUE, CLUE....there maybe better odds out there than messing with a guide... _________________ Happy Hook'n

Especiallly when those jet skiers are bombing out Packery when all the sportfishers are going in and out. Not very safe at all! _________________ www.oceanlawusa.com |

I'm with you, I think the City Councils' Beach and Watershore Advisory Committee needs to study the issue and consider recommending that there be some kind of ordinance regarding those jet skiers screwing around in the channel and around the end of the jetties. it is a clear and present safety hazard that should be addressed. and it's also reckless behaviour. that and its really rude. I mean seriously, if you want to " be seen" , go get on TV. Don't bomb your stupid jet ski up and down the channel all day and ruin it for everyone else.
and I hope I am "stepping on someone's toes" on this issue. _________________

It is kinda funny how people tend to rant on this board about things they don't like.
There are idiots with boats, cars, motorcycles, etc, etc, etc.
I have owned several "jet skis" and always practiced safe boating and I have many friends and family that still own them.
I don't like it when the idiot is out on the water on a PWC anymore than the rest of you but!!!!
Just a note, the Packery Boat ramp is smack in the middle of what used to be the jet ski pond where we fought to keep the rental ski's in check and carry insurance to cover the damages they caused by renting to inexperienced riders.
If you see someone acting the fool on a PWC, call it in, perhaps the TPW can actually do something productive for a change. |
