I've got one in my canal from Padre Island Maintenance. Have had no problems. In the past people have posted they have had problems with lights from them, but I haven't. By the way, I caught 2 20'+ trout last night under mine.

A mercury vapor dusk to dawn light, 5200 marine sealant, pvc, extension cord, a black rubber grommet type thingy they sell at lowes, two hose clamps, one brick or heavy rock, and patiences for the 5200 sealant to dry. You want to wait a week or two for the sealant to completely dry. Total cost is about 50.00. They work like a charm.

Gary Lunt Inc. in Port Aransas. Has great lights, will deliver and set up if you want. He still sellls the mercury vapor light also. Look him up on the internet. I have two of his lights and they are the best in the canal.

I used to have three of the mercury vapor lights i made myself in my backyard but I didnt let them dry long enough and they only lasted a month or so. My neighbors light which is the same he taught me how to make them still work because he allowed proper drying time!

It is for a cabin. I heard that the 5200 takes awhile to dry. Where do you get the vapor light at?

If that isnt mercury vapor just go to lowes and they have them. At least they had them 2 years ago when I made them. I say again let the 5200 dry for 2 weeks.

1 pvc rubber coupling with STAINLESS STEEL hose clamps on each end
1 dusk to dawn mercury vapor light
1 tube of 5200
1 extension cord
a few wire nuts
a drill to mount the dusk to dawn lamp out of the water,
a screw driver or socket to take out the light bulb fixture from the lamp 110 test light
pvc cap
6 inches or so of pvc I am not sure the diameter but it needs be roughly 2 inches not sure without looking at it maybe 3 inches.... With material in hand you can tell
some common sense and know how!!!

1. Take the ceramic part that holds the light bulb in the lamp out of the lamp.
2. Wire it with an extension cord, using heat shrink fitting
3. Place ceramic light fixture in the pvc rubber coupling
4. get some PVC to attach the other end of the PVC coupler too
5. glue on cap for the pvc bottom
6. drill a hole in the pvc cap that will be on the bottom to pull extension cord through.
7. 5200 everything!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
8. This is the hard part... Let it dry for 2 weeks so you didnt waste your time and money. Step 8 is by far the hardest step.
9. hard wire the other end of the extension cord to the dusk to dawn light. Make sure it is on a breaker and the breaker is off. Double check with a 110 test light. I hope I didnt really have to mention that but just in case!
10. Please use your common sense. I do not know you and wouldnt want anyone to get hurt. It has been a while since I have built one. But as long as everything is sealed it will work. The light just sits on top of the pvc coupler with a crap load of 5200 on the base of the light. Also 5200 where you drilled the hole and all around the pvc coupler seals. I may have missed a step but I do not think I did???? Oh you will need to weigh down the light with a brick and a big hose clamp or something.

THe light looks green under the water to me but I cannot differentiate green from white and vice versa! I know they definitely attract fish. I live on the whiteley canal next to the laguna reef. Their are lots of bait on the lights right now. I have seen some trout but I only look every once in a while. I can help you build one sometime if you are local but it is not difficult.

Gunbuyer,

I think you and surfinsapo should team up and do a video for us on how to build one of these bad boys!

There's a trick I use when I build my lights. I thread the light bulb onto the socket the way it will be when finished. I then heat up some cooking oil to about 300°. I take a PVC coupler (I don't remember the size, but it's one that barely fits over the socket) and swirl it around the oil for a few second until it's soft. As soon as I pull it out, I slip the socket and bulb into it until the coupler flares out to the shape of the base of the bulb. I hold it together until it cools enough to where it will retain that shape. Obviously, I have to clean the cooking oil very well before adding the 5200 goop. That gives me a snug fit with very small gaps. That means you use less of that expensive goop.
