I've been wanting to do a canoe trip from the Mathis dam down to Labonte park. Just wondering if anyone has done this before and if they have, how long did it take. Just waiting on the weather to warm up so we don't get to cold at night when we camp.

you can make it in two days. Last spring/summer dont quite remember the time there was a decent brush jam a few miles down form the 666 bridge but i think the river flooded good enough since then to wash it out. There's plenty off sandbars to stop an camp on too in certain parts of the river. never done it by manual power aka paddling, but its a fun trip. Just make sure to watch the weather before you go.

Hey Donnie, I've often thought that myself. Or even a kayak trip.

Slimfishin, you said you did it in a powerboat, did it take two days in a boat, or is that how long you think it would take in a canoe? Thanks for the info.

Yeah mason nothin like getting a text at 1am that says "hey just wanted to let you know there's a severe thunderstorm warning" then bam all hell breaks loose lol. My dad back in the day would do it in two days with his brothers in canoes. We paddled from the 666 bridge to hazel bazmore in about a day in a 12foot aluminum boat due to motor issues one time. I guess it just depends if your in a hurry or not. But I would go with 2 full days.

Made this trip many times years ago when I was a Scoutmaster. We got canoes from the Scout Camp there at Karankawa and launched early in the morning at the Hwy 359 bridge on the Nueces. We always camped two nights and made the trip in three full days arriving at Hazel Bazemore Park mid afternoon of the third day. A grown man can make the trip in one day but its more work than fun. It can really be a good trip. I encourage you to do it !

I'm pumped about the trip. I plan on taking my time and doin a little bass fishin on the way. Trying to figure out how I'm gonna haul all the beer though. Might have to tow a little barge behind me or have people meet me along the way making beer drops. I'll probably leave 3 days time to do the trip just in case until I know how long it takes at my pace.

I have made that very trip more than a few times. It is a lot of fun, but that southeast wind will beat you down if it picks up during the last few miles.
