Does anyone know of a good discussion board that covers the Matagorda/Sargent area or East Matagorda Bay area. Or anywhere I can find some decent info on the area?
I have been fishing the Mansfield area for quite a while but now the family doesn't want to travel that far. Thought we would try these two little towns.
Also, we went there over Thanksgiving weekend and I couldn't catch a mullet for S*!% with the castnet. I went to the baitshop and they said there aren't any mullet up there. I can't believe mullet aren't there. Was it just the time of the year or do y'all know why this was?
Much appreciated. |

| Not exactly sure where you were Thanksgiving week. We camped at Matagorda Bay Nature RV park that week. I caught mullet in the ditch along the road to the park and in the pass right where we camped. We caught sheep's head, black drum, red fish, during the day and sand trout at night. Nothing was biting on mullet. The bait of choice was shrimp. The fish were caught in the pass. The surf was brown and choppy most of the time. There is a store in Matagorda right by the new bridge going to the Island. They have everything you will need there including a $6.00 annual beach pass. I feel safe down there. It is patrolled by county sheriffs. If you search this site you will find many really good posts on the Matagorda area. We use to get regular Matagorda reports from Juan Pescado but we haven't herd from him in a while. L |

Much appreciated for the info.
Don't know where I was either I guess. I threw that damn net so many times and came back with everything but mullet. Tried the creek, the cut, grassy areas.
We did catch a ton of black drum on dead shrimp. They were all 10 to 13 inches. My 3 and 6 year old had a blast so I loved every minute of it.
We will be going there at least once a month this year so I might be able to give some additional insight. |
