What is your favorite rod for the 3/4oz Super Spook? I've tried a few but just can't seem to get the action right. Was considering trying a Waterloo, $$$$$ ouch. But will pay since they are made in USA with USA built blanks. Any advice is appreciated.

I know this sounds like it wouldnt be tooo good,,, But try out the Academy tournament series. It will run you about 25$ and I use it with my Quantium Aviso and throw a super spook jr. for bass up here in Austin and it works Great!!!!! Good luck

I work all of my top waters with a cheap little 7ft ugly stick intercoastal series, med-light action, and also with a slightly lighter 7ft shimano setup. Both have lasted me a little over a season with no signs of signficant wear. I haven't noticed too much of a difference in the action of the lure with each rod, as long as I have a little slack in the line, and just twitch it enough to take out the slack, I have gotten the right action on both rods. It took me a while to get it just right, but ya gotta keep practicing. Once you get it right, then you can play with the "walking" speed, add pauses, etc... Good luck.

Personally, I like a 7' graphite with a fairly stiff butt and a very fast taper, a fast action rod. Too much stiffness in the tip imparts too much speed on the wrist flicks, especially when using very low stretch line. The stiff butt will allow long casts even with the flexible tip section.

I built a super fine walk the dog rod years back out of this blank, made it a casting rod. The blank doesn't know or care how it's fished!

After many years of thrashing trout rod set ups, I have finally found the daddy of them all. Falcon Coastal 7' fast action, med power. With an Abu Revo. Killer drags. I have used Curado 200bsf/St Croix...Abu MagX/All Star....no comparison... Go Falcon..Go Abu...And a special thanks to Tyler for turning me on to Falcon rods. BTW, the Shimano Calcutta series reels just totally suck for the surf. I rebuild my reels, but jeez, not every trip!! If you go spinner, Try the Penn slammer. A lot of people here will say the Shimano Stradic is the best, but they are boat fishermen.. Do not take a stradic in the surf. My new years resolution is to go cheap on my gear from now on...That way when some insane friend.....Nickaway...steals your rods off the front of your truck whilst you are passed out..it is not that big of a deal...LOL

Waterloo HP Slam Mag in 6'6" is the rod you want. I use it for everything, but works especially well for the big topwaters.

Thanks for all the good advice. Have a Falcon Lowrider that I really like for smaller plugs and tails, will definitely check out some others with higher lure weight ratings, and they are made in the USA. The Castaways are intriguing but they will not reveal where their blanks come from. Spoke with someone at Waterloo and they told me that they have an 8 footer that is very similar to the HP Slam Mag, 8 feet is for a little extra distance since I mostly fish the surf. I have an old All Star IM7 7'6" that I love for spook jr's, just too light for the super spook. Thanks again for the help.
