One more time I must remind everyone that back in the 60s when home made "dune buggies" became popular, they could drive anywhere they wanted out there and WRECKED the dunes. That's why the law was changed..................................
There's no difference in driving on the dunes when the cops aren't around and stealing someone else's tree stand.

I'll just stay on the designated trails. No dunes for me(unless I get stuck in high tide). I think alot of guy's here have a good point. It just takes one person to ruin it for the rest of us. A lot of beaches around America have no access for motor vehicles. We are very, very lucky to have N. Padre and some of S. Padre to drive and fish on. You keep breaking the law enough it will catch up to you(thats a fact). And watch out for that IFS on those Hummers when they break. They charge alot for those reused Chevy truck parts . Lighten up guy's! Live and learn! _________________ When the going gets tough, the tough go fishing... |

Hummers are 1 vehicle, h2's and h3's are built off of GM frames (tahoe, yukon) with a few tweaks. Either way, they aren't the coolest things in the world like some people think. They do good for the most part but the wimpy 5.7, 6.2 and 6.5 diesels left alot to be desired for real 4wd usage.
As far as why everyone talked sh*t to you stxoutdoors, you are the one who made the comment about ripping up the vegetation and not caring, and going in place you know you arent supposed to just because there is no cop around. I guess thats the typical 23 year old mentality nowadays, its a shame you aren't grown up by that age.
Some of us, along with our clubs are busting our asses trying to keep legal places to use our 4x4's in this state, but it's an uphill battle when stuff like this is seen and done. This is what brought on SB 155, which closed all rivers and creeks(except the canadian) to OHV (off highway vehicles). That alone took away access to TONS of our legal wheeling areas. The state (TPWD) has a fund that they are to use to provide OHV parks aroudn the state for the public to use and enjoy. So far they have 1 (Barnwell Mountain), and have been working on the 2nd one. It's hard to get the state to work with the 4x4 community when they see people abuisng the uses of 4wd by tearing up protected/illegal areas. You have to remember, it only takes a few to make a huge group look bad, yet takes a whole lot to make the same group look good. None of us here can change your mind, if you intend to tear stuff up for no reason, we can't change that. Please though, don't come to a public place bragging about it.
One last thing, the statement about Hummers on suburban frame is right, http://www.4x4bodies.com/ . That is just one place offering the kit, which is pretty common, and easy to do, so actually you are the one who does not know what they are talking about. |

Imagine that....................................... a few "punks" as you call yourself is all it takes to wipe out the dune vegetation for years or even decades to come, and then you use the excuse "there aint no vegitation on the dunes at end of road": UNBELIEVABLE!!! _________________ Dave

like i said..........
a hummer is not a military humv
i would like to say a lot of stuff about those owning a hummer but refrain from it for not wanting to insault them.
if you have not had bad luck with your hummer yet just wait all IMHO only.
common sense.................
it was one of the biggest marketing ploys of vechicals to those that fall for them but i know nothing.
it ain't the military one period.................... _________________ Sometimes I wonder whether the world is being run by smart people who are putting us on or by imbeciles who really mean it. -- Mark Twain |

the Nueces bottom was closed because the public trashed private property.
my family owns some private acreage on a small stream. we pay taxes on it, it's private property, but yet, the public still trashes it. they tresspass.
from what I've seen the public deserves no access. too many slobs.
a few good folks DO ask us for access and they DO clean after themselves. I've never turned down those types. if fact, I enjoy letting RESPONSIBLE people picnic there. _________________ the creepy uncle that scares the kids.... |

As far those shorts, hey, if ya got it flaunt it. I am not really into high style and don't need to wear "shorts" with the crotch below the knee and the seam almost touching my shoes. As far as the Hummer, I stand by my statement, the H-2 and H-3s are mechanically basically Chevys. By the way, you just keep on driving on those dunes and maybe someday you will be lucky enough to have the beach closed to all vehicular traffic like it is in may states. _________________ Big Ed

You are correct. The H2s are basically 3/4 ton Chevy Tahoes with a few added cosmetic changes and a different body.
Despite what that loud mouthed kid says, they do not have anything special about their frames or drivetrains. Both the H2 and the Tahoe are built on the same GMT800 platform. _________________

yep. but GM put a 4l80e in the 3/4 ton pickup's and suburbans which is an amazing 4 speed auto trans..
But the hummer h2 gets the 4l65e which is a turd in a heavy vehicle and can barely handle the 385 ft lbs of tq that the 6.2 pushes out. |

Say, STx, do you have a boat? The reason I ask is that I recently saw someone go burning through the seagrass with his 150hp weedeater making a nice trail and just put 2 and 2 together and thought maybe that was you. If not, you two should hang sometime. He was definitely someone who shares the whole "don't follow no rules but mine" philosophy.
Also, is it necessary to have a Hummer in order to enlist in the Padre Island 1st Armored Division? Sadly, I don't have a Hummer (*yet*), but I am willing to install some military grade fake blue headlights and some 26" chrome rims if that will help my chances.

Oh no! Someone brought out a skeleton from the closet about boats burning up sea grass.
Was this a no prop zone?
Im just trying to put 2 & 2 together.
4 wheel drive in dunes=closed beaches
Props tearing up vegetation=closed shallow waters for boats
This could get good. Im just throwing fuel in the fire. Since this whole topic got beat to a pulp. _________________ Do not argue with an idiot. He will drag you down to his level and beat you with experience. |
