Went out to SPJ this morning, tide was very low. I had just got out of my truck and was reaching for my casting net and saw a large splash close in. Someone had just hooked a Jack! I hooked up a top water and headed over there for the action. About 2 or 3 guys were hooked up. I started tossing my top water walking the dog and it got nailed! Sucked it in and took off. Awesome fight. I did manage to land it and release it. The Jacks were coming right up to the rocks to attack all the mullet that were there. I hooked up two more times, 2nd one was another good fight but it got away. It broke the back hook on my lure! The 3rd one I think was the biggest, it hit close to the rocks right in front of another fisherman that was using mullet. That one pulled out alot of line, I tightened the drag a little more and managed to stop it. Almost had it in and it took off again, then it was gone. Straightened my middle hook! That poor lure got tore up quick. Then they were gone and so was everything else except the mullet. Had a great time. No pics left camera in the truck, ran out there too quick. Someone told me to use mullet before they saw them hitting that lure up top.

It does tire u out, but it's worth it to see them make that huge wake when they come get it up top! My friend Perry hooked one up on his fly rod and brought it in this morning. You can see us in the back ground of bluff rats pic of his nice jack.

sounds like fun. jacks are a blast even on medium tackle.. light tackle with a > 10 lb drag you have a good chance of getting spooled!! seen it many o times! catch and release or catch and freeze for shark bait!!

thanks for the report!
