Red for sure and while you don't hear about them with out spots it does happen often. I see at least one a year with out spots and a few with a spot on one side.

Sure you can wade from shore and be legal once you pass the 1000 foot mark, But try and find a location to wade that it won't be over your head before you make the 1000 foot mark.
